Arizona congressman Raul Grijalva has become the second House Democrat to call for President Joe Biden to drop his re-election bid, after his fumbling performance in last week’s televised debate.

On Wednesday, the New York Times quoted Grijalva as saying, "If he’s the candidate, I’m going to support him, but I think that this is an opportunity to look elsewhere.” Grijalva told a Times reporter that Biden is responsible for keeping the White House in Democratic hands, and that includes getting out of the race.

AZPM reached out to Grijalva's office to confirm that the Congressman said that. A spokesperson told AZPM, "It is accurate."

Grijalva joins Texas Democrat Lloyd Doggett as the first two current members of Congress calling for Biden to step aside. Most of the other Democrats telling Biden to drop out are former officeholders.
