As stage productions go, the latest musical from Tucson's Fine Arts Youth Academy is an ambitious one.
The academy is presenting an adaptation of the classic opera Aida, as re-envisioned with music and lyrics written by Elton John and Tim Rice.
But even with a pop-music sensibility, Guiseppe Verdi's original 1871 love story is a mature one for teenagers to perform.
The Fine Arts Youth Academy is one of many different summer arts immersion programs that are made possible by the non-profit group Arts Express, and features the talents of youth from 9th graders through graduated seniors.
Two performances of Aida are scheduled, Thursday and Friday. The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. at the Sahuaro High School Egbert Auditorium, 545 N. Camino Seco Road. More information is available at 520 319-0400.
