A University of Arizona program that helps families of K-12 students plan for college will benefit from two grants coming from the state.
Both grants are from Arizona's Technology and Research Initiative Fund, totaling $650,000.
Some of that money is going to the University of Arizona's College Academy for Parents. It can point Spanish-speaking families toward goals for higher education, according to program director Rudy McCormick.
"We try to simplify that as much as possible so that families can see that this is something that is doable and that they have support from the university," he said. "They have support from their school districts that will help them to achieve the educational aspirations that they have for their children."
McCormick said the grant money will allow the program to connect with families in rural areas aiming to build a plan for college.
He noted the Academy for Parents encourages parents to start navigating a path for their kids as early as primary school.
