Border Crisis Spotlight 2

Border Crisis is a compilation of Arizona Public Media’s coverage of the recent spike in Central American unaccompanied minors and women with children crossing into the U.S. illegally.

AZPM's coverage spans the policy, history, politics and human stories of this issue. Radio and TV content has been curated on this page to serve as a hub of information on the topic, which has gained national and international attention.

The number of unaccompanied children from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador crossing into the U.S. illegally increased by 90 percent from last year. About 60,000 children and teens have been apprehended at the border since October.

The White House called this a humanitarian crisis and President Barack Obama directed the Department of Homeland Security, Health and Human Services and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinate a government-wide response.
