Arizona Public Media’s Fernanda Echavarri was the guest journalist at Bear Essential News Young Reporters Night Thursday, September 19 at the Peter Piper Pizza on Broadway.
About 20 kids who are in grades third through eight met at Peter Piper Pizza to share story ideas, meet Echavarri, and eat pizza.
Echavarri shared her experiences as a multimedia journalist for Arizona Public Media. She explained the differences between writing stories for radio, television and web, while encouraging kids to learn as many skills as possible if they want to continue on the journalism path.
Students asked Echavarri about her every day workflow, why she became a journalist and who her favorite superhero was.
Bear Essential News is a newspaper for kids and parents where young reporters publish stories ranging from first-person articles about a family vacation, to the benefits of eating organic foods.
Many kids at Thursday’s meeting have written stories for Bear Essential News, others are working on their first stories and asked Echavarri for advise.
