TOHONO CHUL: A backstage look at Tohono Chul Park's annual spring plant sale. The park showcases the Sonoran Desert's native plants.

NON-NATIVE PLANTS: Scientists have been investigating the population of tamarisk trees in the Southwest, because they have been spreading rapidly, and there is concern about their impact to the area's environment. Many of these tamarisk trees are taking over areas where native trees once flourished.

TOUGH PLANTS: Southern Arizona experienced record-breaking freezes in 2011 and 2013, leaving many gardeners trying to find hardier plants that would endure such extreme weather conditions. Michael Chamberland, director of horticulture at the Tucson Botanical Gardens, talks about these tough plants and where to find them.

NATIVE PLANTS: A chat with Carianne Campbell, president of the Tucson chapter of the Arizona Native Plant Society, about the organization's history, goals and mission. She also discusses the benefits of using endemic plants to reduce problems in connection to the weather, pests or other issues.
