NEW WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT: Pima County is working on a $185 million project to renovate its Roger Road wastewater treatment facility. Work on the plant is expected to wrap up in early 2014. The project also includes upgrades for the Regional Optimization Master Plant, the Ina Road wastewater treatment plant, as well as the pipe connecting both facilities.
VAIL INCORPORATION: Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild has been urging residents in unincorporated areas of Pima County to join an existing city or town through annexation. Among those, Vail, Ariz. residents were asked to allow a vote on forming a new local government that would be a Tucson suburb. Rothschild said he supports such efforts because they bring more population into existing cities or towns in the metropolitan area.
THE AZ WE WANT: The Center for the Future of Arizona wrote a plan that focuses on goals that would improve the quality of life of Arizona residents. The Arizona We Want is based on a 2009 Gallup polling of Arizonans. The plan focuses on eight areas: education, job creation, environment and water, infrastructure, healthcare, young talent, civic engagement and community involvement.
