Senate Bill 1266 addresses an issue garnering a great deal of attention in recent months, sexting. Sexting is when people send sexually explicit photos via cell phones. SB 1266 sponsored by Tucson Sen. Jonathan Paton (R) would make it a misdemeanor for minors to send sexually explicit photos of themselves or others. Right now, those same minors could be charged with child pornography.
SB 1266 passed the Senate Public Safety and Human Services Committee with a unanimous vote. Sen. Al Melvin (R) is the only local lawmaker on the committee. He voted in favor of the proposal.
