University of Arizona officials have posted a message to the campus community stating that about 2:12 PM, UA police received a 911 call reporting a stabbing at the Main Library.
"A female victim has been transported to a local hospital and a male suspect has been detained by law enforcement," according to the statement.
At this time, it does not appear that either individual is a UA student.
Notifications went out to the UA community this afternoon at 2:22 PM– alerting a stabbing incident that occurred at the Main Library.
The suspect was described as a male with long brown hair, wearing a navy shirt and grey sweatpants or jeans and was last seen running south from the building.
A second notification went out at 2:37 PM announcing that the suspect had been taken into custody and that police were on the scene continuing an investigation.
The condition of the victim is unknown at this time.
This was the first official use of the UA’s new emergency notification system, which was unveiled last week.
Email notifications were delayed by 6 minutes from text notifications that were sent out.
A third UAlert was sent out at 2:55 PM stating that the situation was resolved and that no more alerts regarding the incident would be sent out.
"There is no longer a threat...Normal operations have been restored and the investigation is ongoing," the alert said.
Classes begin next Monday.
