A bill in the Arizona House would ask the federal government to exempt US military operations from the Endangered Species Act.

House Concurrent Memorial 2004 would send a letter to President Trump and the heads of both chambers of Congress, suggesting a law to that effect be passed.

The memorial mentions the state's seven major military facilities by name and that acts such as training have been postponed, canceled, or modified due to the environmental law.

HCM 2004 is sponsored by Rep. Gale Griffin, whose district includes Fort Huachuca, which has been embroiled in a years-long battle over its impact on the San Pedro River and the various endangered species that rely on its water.

The bill is scheduled to be heard in the House Federalism, Military Affairs and Elections Committee on Tuesday afternoon.
